Like most good ideas, The Workshop was born out of necessity. Aspiring musicians move to Nashville and often find they need to get a job while also pursuing a career in music. Even though folks move here specifically to write songs, it can be a difficult thing to actually do. Not because of any lack of inspiration, but because between work schedules, roommates, and noise restrictions placed on apartment living, finding a time and place to sit down and strum a guitar is hard.
In Nashville, there are almost no songs on the radio written by just one person. This means that being able to write with other people is an essential skill for someone looking to make a career writing music. The problem, as most new songwriters learn, is that your first co-write is a lot like a first date. It can easily turn into two people trying to get to know each other and find some common ground between long awkward silences. What makes this even worse is that typically cowrites happen in someone's home. Imagine a bad first date happening in your living room, and you get the idea.
Enter The Workshop. A membership-driven, 24-hour songwriting space. Think of it as a 24-hour gym for songwriters. No matter what your schedule, whenever your free time is, you know you can come here and work. Not only that, but we act as a safe, neutral place for all your co-writes. Members can bring up to two guests every time, so you'll never have to ask “Do you want to write at your place or mine?” ever again.
The Workshop is also a great place to meet new cowriters. Anyone who walks through our doors is obviously serious about what they do. You want to work with someone who has a great work ethic and a desire to write better songs every time, and our members have that in spades.
Best of all, The Workshop is located right on Music Row. There is something special in knowing that tomorrow's hits are being written all up and down our street, every day. We're within walking distance to Edgehill, so a quick bite and a good cup of coffee are always just a short stroll away. And who knows who you might bump into along the way.
So come check us out. Your first write is free, and you can drop us a line to schedule one free of charge. Or if you're ready to jump in, you can sign up by following the link at the top of the page. There's no contract, so there's no pressure. Join us at The Workshop and start writing better songs more often.
